Hout Bay- 17 February 2024

Peter 6

Today we had our grandchildren to visit and they were still quite tired from the long journey. Luna slept almost all day and Rocco was a little more active but also tired. We brought them back to Camps Bay at 6pm.

Along the way, Lisa’s sister called that their aunt was hospitalized with a minor stroke. Tomorrow Lisa will visit with her brother, sister-in-law and mother. It’s a 450 km drive, one way.

I just took Lisa to her sister in Eersterivier where her brother Michael will pick her up. We had to get up very early (5 o’ clock) and drove away from Hout Bay at 6 am. The road to Eersterivier is already a challenge during the day (very narrow and curvy) but at night it is downright dangerous. The road network in Cape Town is fine, but the drivers are not. For example, lighting of the car is optional and the speed differences on the roads are huge. On the highway you easily meet someone who drives 50 while the rest holds 120. People walk by and on the road everywhere and this morning there were idiots who went running or cycling on this mountain road. Mind you, with very moderate or no lighting. Cycling here is an activity for MAMIL’s and for those who don’t know this expression, look it up. People here think they can cycle, but it’s just life-threatening.

On the way back from Eersterivier it was much busier with cyclists and runners, but luckily there was daylight. Now you saw the ignorance in the motorists who don’t understand how to overtake a, swinging, cyclist. Along the way I saw a car that had slipped into a bend and stood across the road. So he had driven down the mountain 15 minutes after me.

Today is speech day. I really have to do it. Tom and Tamara arrive in Cape Town tonight. Tom was busy yesterday for the cat Mickey with cat flaps in our garden house. I’m curious if they put the cat food somewhere for the ‘babysitter’ (my sister Hanneke). On the other hand, Hanneke is by no means crazy so whatever they have forgotten…..that will be taken care of.

I’m curious if my camera will come along. Lisa may be back tonight and otherwise tomorrow during the day.
