Our last day in Monkey Bay. Yesterday we had a perfect rest day with some reading and drinking beer. The fun of the journey we are taking now are the people we meet. In this lodge, we met two Southafricans, Pete and Sally, from Cape Town. They have been on the road for more than four months via Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania and Rwanda. Now they were on the way back to Cape Town. They gave great advice to use the app IOVERLANDER because there is a lot of information about campsites, lodges and border crossings throughout Africa. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We also met two Swiss guys in Cape Maclear who came from Switzerland with an old Subaru Forrester of 1500 euros and were on their way to South Africa. They had stories about border crossings……<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We also met two Australians, Ian and Melian from Perth who were sailing the world with their catamaran. Their ship was now in Dar es Salaam and they undertook trips to different countries in Africa. By the way, they had been travelling for 2 \u00bd years and they expect the trip would last another 5 years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the lodge here is also a young Dutch man who is busy supervising the construction of a house here in Malawi for his uncle. This afternoon we are going to see how that goes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The owner of the lodge here is a young South African who is a top host and does everything to make us feel like guests.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Over the last few days I have completely come to rest and I can enjoy playing monkeys here on the campground. Lisa and I decided to take it easy from now on. We found a campsite at 250 km distance, at Lake Malawi where we drive tomorrow. We will stay there until Sunday or Monday and then go through Lilongwe to Zambia. The intention is to drive to Botswana and sail to the Zambezi at Kazangula. The car can then be serviced after which we will drive to Namibia via many campsites to arrive in South Africa sometime in mid-January. The plan is to rent a house in Knysna or so for a few weeks but we will see.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
