Today, April 17, the camper was sold and that is a milestone. Why did we sell the camper? Well actually to get rid of the headache. Possession gives ‘concerns’ such as insurance, repairs, taxes and storage. Now the possession in South Africa is overseeable because most things just cost much less than in the Netherlands, but you still have to think about paying every time and sometimes you have to email endlessly for a simple invoice with an account number. In short, we were tired of it and are just going to rent if we ever do this again.<\/span><\/p>\n

But yes, to whom do you sell a car in South Africa? The biggest problem is to get the money from this country because international payment is subject to restrictions here. To pay someone abroad you have to work quite a bit here. Fortunately, we have family here and therefore local bank accounts and we were able to solve this problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here too, there are buyers with the well-known names and we went with that. Today the car was inspected and we quickly agreed on the price. The paperwork was complicated mainly due to my unfamiliarity with what is needed for a sale, but with some help everything finally worked out fairly quickly. I bought the car in July 2021 for ZAR 540,000 and now sold it for ZAR 372,000 after driving 45000 km with it. Maintenance cost about ZAR 20,000 and insurance and tracking ZAR 40,000. We bought ZAR 15,000 tyres. So in about 45000 km (in about 180 days) we spent ZAR 243,500 which means just over ZAR 5 per km excluding fuel (about ZAR 3 per km).<\/span><\/p>\n

Compared to rent (around the ZAR 1800\/day) it is therefore a financially attractive option.<\/span><\/p>\n

I immediately rented another car and got a big upgrade although I have to keep an eye on whether the deposit will be refunded.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is misty and cool here due to the influence of the sea. If you drive 5 km inland it is already 5 degrees warmer. I understand we will be barbecuing on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just like yesterday, it’s misty here on the coast and Lisa and I limited ourselves to reading, walking and Netflixing. Yesterday the apartment was cleaned by the landlords. Not really necessary but part of the package.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa is very happy that she can still spend some time with her family here and I continue to be a fan of books so we actually have fun.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
