If there are people who think that South Africa is always warm, that is certainly not the case in winter! The past few weeks I have been reporting on wonderful temperatures during the day (20-25 degrees) but very cold nights (below freezing).\u00a0 South Africa is largely located on a plateau (1000-1500 m high) with huge bodies of water on both sides. The Atlantic Ocean is cold because of the Gulf Stream from Antartica while the Indian Ocean is just warm. This makes it comfortable in Durban (east side) during the winter and cold on the west side (Cape Town).<\/p>\n

The past few days there were heavy rain showers and the temperature did not exceed 12 degrees. The next few days promise slightly better weather!<\/p>\n

We have spent the past few days walking and some driving around the area. We drove to Houtbaai and Chapmans\u00a0 Peak, areas that Lisa’s sister Sandra had never visited before.<\/p>\n

Last night we were at a performance of niece Zea. She attends a theatre school in Cape Town and she gave a performance with her fellow pupils. It was very nice to see this although we had to rush home (curfew) with heavy rains. The problem is that here people just drive without headlights on the highway and that in combination with rain gives surprises. Even the police cars do this.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow we bring Lisa’s mother to her house in Dysseldorp. We will stay there for a few days in any case<\/p>\n
