To get a visa is a bit of a hassle, certainly when one is used not to have any borders like we have in the EU. Nevertheless, I should not complain when one knows how crazy the conditions are that a visitor has to comply with when visiting the Netherlands. In Africa one is treated as a guest. Summarized (for NL citizens):
- South Africa: Visum on arrival for three months. No costs
- Namibia and Botswana: Idem
- Zimbabwe: On arrival at US$ 30. KaZu visa (including Zambia) costs US $ 50
- Zambia: Border. I have to verify
- Malawi: Border. I have to verify
- Tanzania: Border. I have to verify
- Kenya: At the border. East Africa visa is an option (Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda for US$ 100)
- Uganda & Rwanda see above. Rwanda can be applied electronically
- Ethiopia: Electronic
- Burundi: uncertain, may join East Africa visa in December 2018
Importing the car requires preparation in the form of a Carnet de Passage. This is well explained on the websites of the ADAC or ANWB; we get help from Bushlore in this matter.
