The last month at home

Peter 0

Today is September 1; Next month we will travel! There are still many things that need to be dealt with, and I do not like calling embassies to make a visa necessary. This week I’ll really have to do it….

Lisa gets a lot of questions from acquaintances how it is possible that we can take this trip and whether I am already retired. Ha, Lisa looks younger but is really 5 years older than me.

The idea to go on a 6-month journey was not created overnight; many years have gone by. I think I am the initiator and also the driving force behind it. Lisa has been looking at it with some compassion for a long time but has been a major contributor going through decisive moments. That we are going now and not next year April, is her decision and is based on the simple fact that we are now healthy and who knows how it is next year.

Also the care that Tamara, our daughter, needed had to be arranged and in doing so we are a team with a goal.

So how does such a journey arise? Well it starts with an idea and then you go just start. I’ve had a lot support from internet and checklists but the important thing is that you want something together, that you also agree to do it and, very importantly, when you’re going to do it. And then it just happens, because you have it yourself intended.

Money seems like a huge issue but that is, quite curious, not the case. It’s a matter of making a budget and then simply start saving.

How to deal with your work is more difficult and requires choices that can still have effect long after. This is also the case for me. I lose customers because of my absence.

Family and especially our children, son-in-law and grandchild, is of a very different order with real worries. Can they take care of themselves? What if someone gets sick? Is everything arranged? However, the beauty of family is that they are family and therefore love you and forgive you (all). In addition, they are happy for us. It helped me to make a checklist for the children (21 and 23) living in our house in which a lot, if not everything, stands what can happen in and around the house.

Last but not least, the friends. Also there are surprises including envious reactions but that is a minority.

The journey itself consists of hollow or dwelling. Now I find it pretty nice to arrange things so I have done the most by far in the preparation. Internet is a wonderful source of information but also the Lonely Planet travel guides are useful. I only hate calling to embassies and actually I don’t know why
