After almost 350 km we are now at a beautiful campsite in the town of Benia. This village is located just north of the Los Picos De Europe National Park that I first heard about through the walk that my business partner and his wife took last year. This mountain range is located just west of the Basque Country and the mountains are almost 3000 m high.
We drove here via highway 8 which winds beautifully through the mountains in the Basque Country and is almost completely toll–free. On the way we saw the Bay of Biscaye and drove along the southern edge of Bilbao and Santander. This road ends in La Coruna at the westernmost tip of Spain. Of course, we have tried to read the completely illegible Basque language. A language with 15 cases related to Finnish and Hungarian.
The weather is still bad with a lot of rain and gusts of wind but improvement is expected. From tonight it will be dry and then it could be sunny for the rest of the week with a temperature of just under 20 degrees. And that makes us quite happy. Lisa has booked the campsite for 1 night but she will soon extend this to 3 days. For tomorrow there is a simple walk to the village and the local church that of course stands on a hill. I‘m looking forward to it!
We don‘t have any plans for Monday yet, but we‘ll probably come up with something. We have already driven almost 1700 km and we are well on our way to Lisa‘s ultimate goal of Portugal. No idea what she wants to see there but I do look something up in my travel guides….

Hallo globetrotters, dit keer in het ruige landschap van Baskië en straks Portugal.
Heerlijk om weer te genieten van jullie reisverhalen.
Kort maar krachtig, wij gaan straks samen op Bali wonen. Nu of nooit!
Het is daar heerlijk, waar wij willen gaan wonen is het een goede 500 m. boven AP.
Beetje bergachtig, dus heerlijke temperatuur, niet te warm en gelukkig nooit koud!
Ik stuur jullie per app wel wat foto’s van de plek die ik heb uitgezocht toen ik daar was een paar weken geleden.

P.S. ik ben nu met Duo Lingo Indonesisch aan het leren, valt reuze mee. Grammatica is juist heel simpel, maar de woorden zijn meestal totaal anders, behalve ketchap, sambal en nasi goreng.ha, ha.
