Peter 9

What a ride today………. unbelievable. We woke up very early until we found out that the time was not correct on my watch. Breaking the campsite goes easy now; in 15 minutes we are ready to go. The goal was to drive to Inchope, about 380 km over the EN-1, and find a hotel, lodge or camping there. Then we want to go to the Gorongosa Park.

It all started fine, until we had driven about 50 km. The roads so far are reasonable, not like in South Africa, but not bad. That changed now. First there came potholes, more potholes and finally the road consisted of a 3 m wide strip of asphalt filled with potholes and in addition 3-4 m wide strip with gravel, stones and sand full of pits. The maximum speed went back to 25 km/h and I had to be incredibly careful because some potholes were 40-60 cm deep. This bad piece of road was about 75 km long so for 3 hours I was tremendously committed to driving. Fortunately, the road became better again, although a pothole popped up now and then. Full in the brakes then! After 7 hours of driving we arrived in Inchope and what an unimaginable mess was that place. No hotel, nothing. Via Google Maps we found a hotel at 30 km distance, Shelby’s Guest House but this one, when we arrived there, did not have a guarded parking lot and we want it. The following hotel was 84 km away, Windmill Hotel in Gondola near Chimoio and we arrived at 17:45. It’s a Halal hotel but they get beer for me!

We are both a bit shocked about today especially because it was rather unexpectedly difficult and it seemed that we could not find a place to sleep. That is what we need to find!

Some nice things from Mozambique. I mentioned the colours of the houses next to the road (Vodacom Red) and, upon enquiry, this was indeed the case that Vodacom sponsored this. Free paint for those who want it. Nice advertisement!

Tomorrow pictures I hope

    hallo Afrika gangers,

Keep going guys, never a dull moment in Afrika!
    Namaste,
    Flim

Vader! Ik zou zeggen, geef mijn moeder even een snelcursus booking.com zodat jij lekker kan rijden terwijl zij onderweg naar slaapplek zoekt voor jullie.

Heel veel liefs en een extra dikke knuffel van Luna <3
